ENG stands for Electronic News Gathering, and ENG style shooting is filming intended to capture live footage or news footage that will require minimal editing before broadcasting. ENG style shooting differs from other types of shooting in that electronic news gathering equipment is specifically designed to record and transmit audio and video footage in real time. Footage is captured and switched on a production switcher so that elements such as graphics and replays can be added remotely at the studio.

EFP is Electronic Field Production. EFP makes use of both ENG Electronic News Gathering techniques and studio production techniques and describes any video production that takes place in the field rather than in a studio. While ENG footage is shot quickly to respond to a news event taking place in real time, EFP Electronic Field Production is carefully planned to provide optimal audio, lighting, and video outside the studio. Some examples of EFP include sporting events and large conventions, whereas examples of events requiring ENG filming include natural disasters and accidents requiring news coverage.
